Volunteers are the backbone of the Manatee County Audubon. Each one helps make our mission of promoting the enjoyment, understanding, and conservation of native birds and their habitats possible.

Microforest Planting Day In Celebration of Earth Day!
April 20th 8am-12pm
We need your help in putting plants in the ground. The site will be prepped and holes dug. Volunteers are needed for the planting of our microforest.

Bird Surveys and Assessments
Assist with bird surveys (including Christmas Bird Count, Bird Collision surveys, etc.), assessments of our Felts Audubon Preserve, and other field work.
Blog Contributions
Write blog entries about birds, current conservation issues, or other relevant topics for the MCAS website.
Events/Outreach
Represent Manatee County Audubon at local events by leading small activities, distributing collateral, and discussing the benefits of being a MCAS member
Garden Maintenance
Duties Maintain the gardens around the MCAS Bird Blind as planned and directed by the MCAS Garden Coordinator.** Knowledge of plant types and environmental requirements
Restoration Days
To maintain trails and clear invasive plants take place monthly at our Felts Audubon Preserve. Training and tools are provided. Please sign up through the calendar.
Become a Bird Guide
Lead walks at local hotspots and assist in bird, animal and plant identification. All Bird Guides are trained alongside experienced volunteers. More volunteers are needed to ensure we can cover our Field Trips throughout our season. If you would like to join the fun and become a MCAS Guide please fill out our form.
Governmental & Business Outreach
Connecting with community – School board to promote MCAS and future youth programs, local businesses to discuss sponsorships, donations and collaborations, going to Manatee County land development meetings to report any development plans that may restrict conservation efforts. Connecting with Non-Profit groups that help underrepresented groups in Manatee County to connect them to nature, conservation and birdwatching. Represent MCAS at Chamber events.
Youth Programs
We are interested in starting our youth programs back up again and are looking for volunteers to assist with setting up, greeting, and facilitating educational activities at our family and youth events! Includes helping out at Young Birders Club Field trips. By applying to this volunteer category, you consent to MCAS performing a background check.
Board Member and leadership Development
Volunteers to learn alongside existing board members. A mentorship program to introduce you to conservation initiatives, engagement, communication and development of next generation leaders.
